Government Relations Manager
Manatee County
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and report on state and federal legislation impacting the County
- Develop and recommend strategies to advance the County's legislative priorities
- Assist in coordinating the County's lobbying efforts and preparing legislative briefing materials
- Serve as a liaison between County leadership, elected officials, and external stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with legislators, government agencies, and community organizations
- Support Director with development of County's strategic plan
- Represent the County at legislative hearings, meetings, and conferences as needed
- Collaborate with Communications staff to develop messaging strategies related to legislative and policy initiatives
- Provide support for public information efforts
- Assist in managing responses to public records requests
- Supervise and mentor Legislative Aide(s)
- Develop and track performance metrics related to government relations and communications functions
- Assist the Director in preparing budgets, reports, and presentations
- Coordinate interdepartmental efforts to align government relations priorities with County goals
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, or related field
Experience
5 years in legislative affairs, government relations, or public administration, with 2 years in a supervisory role
