Perfusionist Perioperative Services

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and manage Heart Lung Machine for extracorporeal circulation
• Manage Cardiopulmonary Bypass during operations
• Review patient medical records to select appropriate life supporting therapy
• Assess blood/blood products for transfusion needs
• Operate cell salvage devices
• Manage intra-aortic balloon pump
• Operate ECLS devices
• Supervise CVP students and fellow training
• Administer medications during Cardiopulmonary Bypass
• Monitor and interpret physiological parameters
• Manage hemodialysis and hemoconcentration
• Complete legal documentation

Requirements

Education

Bachelor of Science Degree required, Master of Science preferred

Experience

1 year minimum preferred

Required Certifications

• Diploma in Perfusion Technology or Cardiovascular perfusion diploma
• Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion certification or certification eligible
• American Board of Clinical Perfusion certification (asset)
