Key Responsibilities

  • Research in the theoretical astrophysics group of Prof. Walch on the topic of massive star environments over cosmic time within the SFB 1601
  • Code development
  • Simulations related to massive star formation and feedback, and analysis of simulation data
  • Possibly synthetic observations
  • Publishing results as first author and co-author in collaboration with team members
  • Presenting results at conferences and workshops
  • Teaching (4 hours per week) in MSc and BSc physics programs
  • Preparation of teaching materials and organization of seminars, tutorials, and exams
  • Possible (co-)supervision of BSc and MSc projects
  • Support of scientific coordination of SFB 1601
  • Engagement in SFB areas of diversity, support of young scientists, sustainability, governance, and public relations

Requirements

Education

PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or a comparable field

Experience

5 years in climate change impacts, peace and security; 3 years in quantitative research

Required Skills

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Ideally also German language skills
  • Analytical thinking
  • Independent, systematic, and constructive work
  • Experience in writing research papers and scientific grant proposals
  • Teaching experience (ideally)
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic, multicultural environment
