Key Responsibilities
- Provide epidemiological expertise and support to programs in Toronto Public Health
- Advise on collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of surveillance data
- Assess community health status, environmental health indicators and communicable disease control and prevention
- Consult on epidemiological, statistical, and evaluative methods for communicable diseases
- Initiate, plan, design, organize, implement and evaluate epidemiological research
- Develop and analyze epidemiological indicators and research strategies
- Facilitate use of epidemiological evidence in program planning
- Identify emerging issues and trends related to communicable disease
- Apply quality assurance methods for epidemiological analysis
- Perform epidemiological analysis and interpret data
- Chair or participate in internal work groups and committees
- Liaise with provincial ministries, health units, and other organizations
- Provide consultation and training on epidemiological methods
- Identify new opportunities and technologies for disease surveillance
Requirements
Education
Master's degree in Epidemiology or related discipline
Experience
Considerable experience in public health as an epidemiologist
Required Skills
- Statistical analysis software (SAS, R, STATA)
- Programming languages for epidemiological data
- Data extraction and analysis (iPHIS, Cognos Report Net)
- Knowledge of public health issues and epidemiological concepts
- Organizational skills
- Communication skills
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in high-pressure environment
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Required Certifications
- Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW)
- Valid BC Driver's License
