Industry Trends

The fintech industry is experiencing unprecedented consolidation of pricing functions as companies seek to optimize merchant services across regional markets, with centralized pricing teams becoming critical competitive differentiators in the European payments landscape. Digital payment transformation is accelerating post-pandemic recovery, with merchants demanding more sophisticated and transparent pricing structures that can adapt to real-time market conditions and interchange fee fluctuations. Regulatory changes in the European payments sector, including evolving interchange fee regulations and open banking initiatives, are creating new complexities in merchant pricing that require specialized expertise and advanced analytical capabilities. The integration of AI and machine learning into pricing optimization is becoming standard practice, with companies investing heavily in technology solutions that can process vast amounts of transaction data to deliver dynamic pricing models.

Role Significance

Expected to lead a growing team of 3-5 pricing analysts and specialists while collaborating closely with technology, product, and client relationship teams across the EMEA region, with dotted-line relationships to North American pricing centers of excellence.
This is a strategically significant mid-to-senior level position that will serve as the cornerstone of Fiserv's newly centralized EMEA pricing function, with direct influence on regional profitability and merchant relationship outcomes across multiple European markets.

Key Projects

Implementation and optimization of the new transaction pricing solution across all EMEA markets Development of sophisticated scheme fee recovery models that maximize cost allocation efficiency Creation of competitive intelligence frameworks for real-time market positioning analysis Design and deployment of automated pricing workflows that reduce manual intervention and improve accuracy

Success Factors

Deep technical expertise in merchant acquiring combined with advanced analytical skills to navigate the complex intersection of scheme fees, interchange costs, and competitive pricing pressures in diverse European markets. Strong stakeholder management capabilities to influence internal teams and external merchant partners while building consensus around pricing strategies that balance profitability with market competitiveness. Technology adoption leadership to drive successful implementation of new pricing solutions while ensuring seamless integration with existing business operations and minimal disruption to client relationships. Strategic thinking ability to anticipate market trends and regulatory changes that could impact pricing structures, allowing for proactive rather than reactive pricing adjustments across the EMEA portfolio.

Market Demand

High demand driven by the critical shortage of professionals with combined merchant acquiring experience and advanced pricing analytics capabilities, particularly as fintech companies expand their European operations and require specialized expertise in scheme fees and interchange cost management.

Important Skills

Critical Skills

Merchant acquiring experience is absolutely essential as it provides the foundational understanding of how interchange fees, scheme costs, and merchant pricing interact in complex payment processing ecosystems, without which the role's strategic objectives cannot be achieved. Advanced Excel and SQL capabilities are mission-critical for managing the vast amounts of transaction data and cost information that drive pricing decisions, particularly during the implementation phase of new technology solutions where data validation and model accuracy are paramount. Scheme fee expertise represents the core technical competency that differentiates this role from general finance positions, as the ability to optimize cost recovery and allocation directly impacts both merchant satisfaction and organizational profitability across diverse European markets.

Beneficial Skills

Revenue assurance experience provides additional value by enabling proactive identification of cost leakage and recovery opportunities that can significantly impact bottom-line performance in high-volume transaction processing environments. Master data management skills become increasingly valuable as pricing functions rely more heavily on automated systems and real-time data processing, ensuring the reliability and consistency of pricing decisions across multiple markets and client segments. Communication and stakeholder management abilities are crucial for success given the cross-functional nature of pricing decisions and the need to influence both internal teams and external merchant partners while managing complex regional relationships.

Opportunity to build and shape a completely new centralized pricing function from the ground up, providing rare experience in organizational design and strategic implementation at a global fintech leader.
Direct involvement in cutting-edge technology implementation including advanced pricing solutions that will set industry standards for merchant services optimization.
